The German Chancellor, who is visiting Tel Aviv to show solidarity with Israel, said it was in “a visit to hard times”, Deutsche Welle reported.
“Sic said in parliament last week, Germany may have only one place in difficult times -- on the Israeli side. The security of Israel and its citizens is key to the state of Germany. And the German Parliament unanimously supports that stance”, Scholz said.
Scholz noted that Germany's history and its role “in the beginnings of the Holocaust mean that it is our duty to rise to the existence of the state of Israel”.
He added: “We condemn blood-torn attacks by Hamas terrorists in the harshest terms. A brutal terror against innocent civilians, the execution of defenseless citizens, infanticide, the kidnapping of women, men and children, humiliation and presentation of Holocaust survivors -- we cool our blood”.
