A spokeswoman for the United Nations Human Rights Office said there are new signals that some Palestinians, who had originally moved south after the Israeli evacuation order, are returning to their homes, as Israel is conducting air strikes even south of the Gaza Strip.
“We remain very concerned that Israeli forces' severe air strikes throughout Gaza, including in the south body of”, Ravina Shamdasani told reporters.
“Sulmet, combined with the harsh living conditions in the south, appears to have prompted some to return north, despite the fact that severe bombings” are continuing in that area.
Shamdasan said the UN Human Rights Office has heard information that people are waiting to return to the north, including testimony from a Palestinian who has said that “would rather die in my” house.
Following Hamas' deadly attacks on Israel on 7 October, Israeli authorities surrounded Gaza and ordered residents in the north of the territory to move south.
Following the evacuation order, more than 1 million Palestinians have moved south to the Gaza Strip, but also in this area have been reported for continued Israeli air strikes.
Israel has pledged to carry out Gaza's land invasion to eliminate Palestinian Hamas militants.
