As many as 60 planes will be involved in the new-day Noon-send exercise, which will last until Thursday next week. Airplanes involved include modern aircraft, but also surveillance planes and tankers, as well as long-range B-52 bombers.
This year, maneuvers will be held mainly in airspace over Italy, Croatia and the Mediterranean. A total of 13 Alliance member states are participating, including Germany.
Secretary - General NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said last week that Russia's war against Ukraine is a reminder of the significant role of nuclear weapons as a preventer.
While it's a routine training exercise, “Standfast Noon” will help ensure the reliability, effectiveness and safety of nuclear prevention, he stressed. /Atsh
