The EU's Emisari for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, has said dialogue will necessarily continue as it argued that without normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia for neither will there be a European future.
He has added that normalisation requires compromise and that it should be achieved through dialogue.
September “24 was not an accident. It was a terrible thing that happened and had to be properly investigated. The fact is that many things have changed and will have impact on the continuation of dialogue in many ways, but there is one thing that has not changed and will not change is that normalising Kosovo-Serbia relations requires an agreement, meaning compromise, which we can achieve only through” dialogue.
“Whoever says dialogue is dead says European future has died because the road to Kosovo's Europe and Serbia runs through normalisation”.
Lajcak has warned that the EU's measures on Kosovo could be removed and that he himself supports it.
“under current circumstances does not look good that Kosovo is under negative EU measures and this issue should be addressed. (Sacrificing of sanctions) This is an opportunity that I personally will support”.
The EU has sanctioned Kosovo at the end of June with the argument that “has ignored demands for immediate steps to reduce tensions in the north” during May.
