Israeli Land Forces are inside Gaza after entering the country at night from the north, Army spokesman Daniel Hagari said on Saturday morning.
Israeli forces “entered the Gaza Strip and expanded the ground operation, where infantry, armour and engineering units and heavy fire artillery” are taking part, Hagari said during a news conference at Tel Aviv, CNN records.
“Forces are on the ground and continue fighting”, he said without providing further details.
Israeli Defence Forces spokesman (IDF)'s words confirm that the military operation has undergone considerable expansion after what it previously described as two “targeted”, which took place on Wednesday evening and Thursday evening.
Both of these shares saw ground forces retreat in a few hours.
However, it does not seem that any major ground offensive aimed at taking any territory is still under way, CNN further emphasises.
Hagari said the army had suffered no casualties in the night fighting and added, “we continue to do everything to keep our forces safe”.
IDF spokesman said Gaza residents who had moved to the south, an area he called <x0space protected” would receive more food, water and medicine today, though he did not provide further details.
Hagari also reiterated his appeal to ignore rumours of a hostage deal with Hamas, calling it a group movement aimed at promoting what he called “psychological terror”.
