The United States Ambassador to Serbia, Christopher Hill, has spoken of the ongoing investigation into the terrorist attack on Kosovo Police in Bansjka, Zvecan.
Hill said investigations are being made by the Kosovo and Serbian sides and that “The U.S. is watching very closely” to ensure that there is responsibility and that it will not be repeated.
It's clear that investigations are under way... The Serbian side has said it will make a thorough investigation. The Kosovo side is doing the same. I think the U.S. is watching very closely. All in order to ensure that he has responsibilities and does not repeat himself. So, it's a big factor”, Hill said.
Hill said we need to focus on exactly who's responsible, why they did it and, in the end, create circumstances where this can't happen again.
I think the point is to focus on exactly what happened, who's responsible, why they did it and, at the end, create circumstances where this can't happen anymore. I think this involves many different structures. What can KFOR do, container NATO, this way? What other aspects should be discussed? It's not easy, but I think it's a process that has to be complete, it should be clear to people and, in the end, should be effective and ensure that this never happens again”, said Hill in an interview for the REL.
The terrorist attack on Bansika, Hill has called it a major obstacle to dialogue, but has said dialogue should never be forgotten.
But in the end, what we need is a process of dialogue aimed at a political solution. So we can never forget dialogue. And, in this respect, I'm happy that Mr. [Muoslav] Lajcak [EU representative in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue] has gathered the parties, has received a high European attention. The best thing we can do is support Mr. Lajcak's process and try to make sure he's finally successful. These things don't happen when everyone wants to happen, and especially, when you have big obstacles, like what happened in Banjska”, he said over Hill.
Otherwise, besides local authorities, state leaders have said investigations concerning the terrorist attack on Banjska are also conducting international partners.
Chief Parliamentary Glauk Konjufca has said today that NATO and EULEX will come up with final reports of what happened on 24 September.
In an answer to the Express, NATO has said that the official investigation into this case is being conducted by Kosovo Police as the first security responseer until the EU has answered.
Meanwhile, Germany, which Konjufca said is conducting an investigation, has denied that.
