This statement was made after the meeting at the Commission for Business, Labour and Transfera, where the deputy head of the Kosovo Statistics Agency (ASK), Ilir Berisha, who has said he has submitted requests to Government that the population registration process be postponed until April 2024, due to the challenges the institution has faced.
Unfortunately, the census is failing to realise this year. Statistics Agency leaders made this clear today in reporting to the Board Commission. Details will let Hoti know in the meantime.
Meanwhile, during the report to the Commission, Berisha has said that the challenges of this process are lack of tablets, staff training, as well as the registration process in northern municipalities.
He has said how the AKs are envisioning registration in addition to the method of tablets, to do it with two new methods, including online registration via e-Kosovo.
We're late on testing the tab, that's because the winning company has failed to bring in the tablets in time, so we've cut the contract with that company. We signed an agreement with a new company that will bring in the pills in 14 days. The pills should be at least a month before the start date of the census, we still don't have them. Training will be done with pills, we're trying to complete the census this year. The challenges are these, the lack of tabs, the staff on the field and another issue that we have cited difficulties in the four northern municipalities due to the events of September 24th, since, according to recommendations in countries where situations are not calm, it is not preferable to become the” census, he said.
