US Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill said today during the “Security Forum in Belgrade” that “would like Serbia to understand and recognise that Kosovo is an independent state”, but the problem is more complex than that.
“People say Serbia simply needs to understand that Kosovo is an independent state, overcome it and move forward. I would also like Serbia to do this, but the fact is... the problem is much more complex”, Hill said.
The ambassador also is extremely important to understand what happened on September 24th during the Serbian armed attack on Banjska in Kosovo.
It is necessary to initially understand what happened in Banjska to prevent such events in the future”, Hill said.
Hill also said many believe it is up to the US to offer countries in the European Union, even though it is not their duty.
But the country where I come from supports what the EU is doing and trying to do in the region”
Hill commented that he is trying to forget the Rambouille, in which he was involved, but that the situation has changed since then, especially now when it comes to the attention the situation receives in the Balkans.
At that time, he said, people woke up and lay down, had nightmares for the Balkans, while today there are many other situations around the world that are making it impossible to shift all focus on the Balkans.
I think it is important that the EU and the US try to find a way to support each other together and that the Balkans be where they belong geographically”.
