Turkey's President Recep Tayip Erdogan, during the opening of the ancient Syrian Orthodox Church, Mor Efrem, spoke of resolving the conflict in the Middle East, saying only one solution is possible.
During his speech, Erdogan stressed the urgent need for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as the capital and appealed for restraint.
The creation of an independent and geographically bound state of Palestine, based on the border of 1967, with Jerusalem as capital, is an irreversible necessity. Turkey has repeatedly and loudly voiced objections to the issue in any possible case. We have never hesitated to tell the truth, even when the rest of the world silences”, Erdogan said.
He added that Turkey stands in solidarity with “Palestinian brothers” and that it will not take steps that will further escalate the situation.
The loss and suffering of innocent children, especially infants, makes us deeply sad. Throwing more fuel into the fire does not benefit anyone, especially civilians from both sides. Turkey is fully prepared to do everything in its power to end these conflicts as soon as possible and to reduce tensions as a result of recent events. We are determined to intensify diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring peace. We extend a sincere invitation to all relevant actors who sincerely contribute to the purpose of peace in the region”, Erdogan stressed in his speech.
