European Union High Representative (BE), Josep Borrell, said Thursday he would sit “together” with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, to negotiate during the EU summit in Granada, Spain.
Asked whether there is a scheduled meeting between Osman and Vuciqi, Borrell said that “meetings take place to reduce tensions. President Osmani will be here and President Vuciq will also be here. In Chisinev, we sat together, we talked about this, and today we're gonna do the same. But the situation is much worse today than in Chisineva's time. ”
Earlier in the day, Osmani said there is no reason to meet Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, before sanctions are imposed on him for recent developments in northern Kosovo.
On 24 September, Kosovo Police have been attacked in Zvecan Banjska by an armed group, and a police official has been killed.
Three attackers have been killed in exchange for the fire.
Osmani spoke shortly before the launch of a meeting in Granada, Spain, within the framework of the European Political Community.
Leaders of European Union countries and about 20 other leaders of European and Caucasus countries are participating.
Earlier in the day, there have been expectations by European leaders that Osman and Vuciq can meet in the margins of this meeting.
There is no reason to meet before sanctions are imposed on Vuciki. Sanctions first, and then we can talk about more”, Osman said.
She has said she hopes that Spain, which does not recognise Kosovo's citizenship, will join sanctions against Serbia. / REL
