Since February 2022, the invasion of Ukraine has been the theme for Vladimir Putin. Now the Kremlin's tyrant has found another battlefield to play. According to the US, Serbia listed by Russia has massively collected troops on the border with Kosovo! Pristina accused Belgrade of advancing its military towards Kosovo “from three different directions”.
The co-ordinator for strategic communications at the US National Security Council spoke of an unprecedented “deployment” of artillery and tanks at the border.
The federal government called on Serbia to withdraw troops. On Saturday, Germany's Foreign Ministry wrote in X (former-Twitter): “There should be no further escalation between Serbia and Kosovo. It is important that Serbia immediately reduce troops at the border. ”
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has asked the US for help against Belgrade's “war plan”. Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq, meanwhile, described reports of deploying troops as false “”.
Tensions in the region were escalating last week. A Serb commando group of 30 heavily armed people fought with Kosovo police in Banjska near Mitrovica in northern Kosovo. Three Serb attackers and a Kosovo police officer were killed in fighting.
The bloody escalation followed only a few days after the collapse of EU talks aimed at easing the seemingly endless dispute between Kosovo and Serbia. Kosovo, which is now almost exclusively inhabited by Albanians, seceded from Serbia in 1999 with NATO's help and declared independence in 2008. More than 100 countries, including Germany, recognise independence, but not Serbia.
Even Russia, which is an ally of Serbia, does not recognise Kosovo.
Is Putin already starting the next war here?
Massive gathering of Serbia's troops could have consequences for all of Europe.
Russia, especially warmonger Putin, has a keen interest in escalation, writes the German newspaper, Bild.
Balkan security expert Agon Maliqi analyzes in “Profil”: “Putin has a clear interest in creating tensions in Kosovo and provoking it NATO”
Bundestag member and military expert Roderich Kieseweter (CDU) wrote this uncertain situation “could cause further refugee movements in Central Europe”.
We have to understand that Russia is not only interested in destroying Ukraine”, the Keeper continues.
Simple language: “Russia must be stopped, in Ukraine, in Europe, in Africa and wherever it leaves traces of blood”, said Kisseweter.

In response to the gathering of Serbia's troops at the border, NATO approved the deployment of additional KFOR forces in the region over the weekend. KFOR has been responsible for ensuring security in the country since 1999. According to recent information, there are currently about 4,500 soldiers from 27 NATO countries and partner states. Germany recently participated in the KFOR mission with about 80 soldiers.
