The goal of the Faculty of Arts at Tetovo University has supported the idea that poppies be a symbol of genocide in Kosovo.
Serbia had committed genocide in Kosovo during the end of the 20th century, which requires that poppy be a symbol of this genocide.
The genocide crime that the Serbian state applied against Kosovo Albanians, whose witnesses we were, is the most monstrous crime of the last 20th century. It is a pity that even after a quarter of a century from the timing of the Serbian genocide against Albanians, we do not have a symbol that would reflect this crime”, the announcement said.
Full statement:
Genocide is the worst and most cruel crime known to human history. Determineing the destruction of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group as such, the perpetrators of genocide strike all mankind!
The genocide crime the Serbian state applied against Kosovo Albanians, whose witnesses we were, is the most monstrous crime of the late 20th century. It is a pity that even after a quarter of a century of committing Serbian genocide against Albanians, we do not have a symbol that would reflect this crime.
The requirement of the “Genocide Centre in Kosovo-Plag opened” for the four-story rose to become a symbol of genocide victims in Kosovo has aroused our great interest.
After we thoroughly analyzed this center's proposal, we decided to come out with a public statement:
Red with shades of the color of our national flag, reflecting that the Serbian goal was the total or partial destruction of Albanians as a nation;
The reflection of the figures of men, women, boys and girls instead of black beans of poppy seed, to remind people of all ages and genders who were victims of this genocide;
Cutting off poppies into four petals to include four forms of genocide acts, which Serbia implemented during the recent war in Kosovo (the killings, sex violence, ethnic cleansing and the destruction of objects related to ethnic affiliation and Albanian identity);
Cutting off poppy petals in that form to transmit the message that we are dealing with open wounds, resulting in the innocent blood of Albanian victims of this genocide;
Placing the X letter-shaped petals to reflect the fact that during the war, in some settlements where the population was mixed in terms of ethnic affiliation, Serbian officials had marked the homes of Albanians in order to guide the Serb armed forces towards places where crimes should be committed;
And other elements that have poppy proposed by the “Genocide Centre in Kosovo-Plag opened” is an excellent professional realisation.
Therefore, we as art professor at Tetovo University give full and unreserved support to the four - petal poppie to become a symbol of the commemoration of genocide in Kosovo.
