Mathematical educator Remzie Lezi has been expelled from a school in the Suhareka municipality for wearing headscarves.

The math teacher, in a Suhareka municipality school, Remzie Lezi, has been excluded from the right to practice her profession because of the headscarves.

According to a document published on social networks, the School Steering Council has unanimously decided that Lezi will be expelled from school, RTV Duguagjini reports.

“Based on the UA NR 03/2016, Article 3 points 7, which prohibits the carrying of religious uniform, the entire Council unanimously decided, which is not allowed to a math teacher, Mr. Remzie Lezi to exercise the teacher's profession at our school in religious uniform”, the document says.

To allow the headscarf in schools, a social networking campaign was also held a month earlier.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti, at a media conference, had expressed his position on the campaign launched against the ban on the headscarf in high schools.

He had said the veil should be allowed in public institutions and even schools, but not under the age of 16.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Arberie Nagavci had said administrative instruction prohibiting wearing the headscarf in schools would not change.
