It will be replaced by Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsev, who previously held the post of head of Russia's National Defence Control Centre.
The Ukrainian Army said Mizintsev led the siege of the port of Marioupolis, which gave him the nickname “casap of Marioupolis”.
Marioupolis was taken by Russia at the end of May, after most of the city became rubble and thousands of civilians were killed during the siege.
Russian military leadership under the direction of Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu has recently been criticised in nearby circles with the Kremlin, reports Radio Free Europe.
About two weeks ago, the Russian Army had withdrawn from Ukraine's eastern region, Harkiv, under pressure from a Ukrainian counteroffensive.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared that Ukraine has restored over 6,000 square miles of territory occupied by Russian forces.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has started on February 24th.
As a result of the war, thousands have died, and millions of others have been displaced from their homes.
