Suriname's Ambassador to the US confirmed that talks with the US were in a preliminary phase, and the country was considering whether it will move forward.
“We are considering it,” Ambassador Marten Schalkwick said, adding that the country will appoint a team to handle the talks if necessary.
“generally, Suriname is a place where people can adapt quickly,” he said.
The State Department refused to comment on any conversation with Surimin about taking Afghans, who were evacuated last year during the US-backed government's collapse and taking Afghanistan from the Taliban.
The State Department is in regular discussions with Allies and partners for finding sustainable, secure and voluntary solutions to shift for Afghans who do not have a road to the US”, a spokesman wrote on an email.
