Full Posting:
Dear citizens of Mitrovica,
At Betina Ymer's parents' initiative, which because of threats from her fiancé ended up in suicide, we staged a 12 o'clock protest before the Foundation Court in Mitrovica.
Through the protest, we call on responsible institutions to deal with Bethina's case directly and with prior priority and to punish the person who caused her to die. The systematic violence Betina has experienced is one of the most frightening realities many girls and women live in Kosovo, which is fed by all public and private institutions that continue to normalise and amnist gender-based violence.
In addition to our requests for public institutions, parents of the deceased want to turn their attention to the need for protection and attention toward their daughters. Since we live in a violent system like our own, it is crucial that we become more committed to the safety of girls so that they do not feel lonely and helpless when they are victims of violence.
This system of thinking needs to change. So we stand on Friday seeking justice for Bethany and security for all the girls and women in Kosovo. Let's not kill any more, let's not tolerate even one threat to girls, not lose one more life.
