As DW sources reveal near the German Defence Ministry, talks at the meeting have been made about the situation in Kosovo and efforts to normalise relations between Serbia and Kosovo.
Without peace in the Balkans, there is no stability in Europe“, Minister Lambrecht wrote after meeting on a Twitter message.
She welcomed the recently reached agreement between Serbia and Kosovo for the entry rules. But warned that “will need long breath”
Lambrecht secured Germany's support in the process of transforming the Kosovo Army.
Recently, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti had indicated an increased presence of German KFOR soldiers in Kosovo.
The current mandate of German KFOR soldiers, whose continuation was approved in July by the German Parliament, envisions sending up to 400 soldiers in case of need. Currently, about 70 German soldiers are stationed there.
Recently, Germany and France have shown initiative for a stronger commitment to normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia. On Friday, 9 September, the two foreign affairs councilors of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and French President Emmanuel Macron will go to Kosovo and Serbia to see what options are complete normalisation of relations between the two countries. According to government circles in Berlin, the two advisers are expected to insist on seeking a solution for normalising relations.
