American President Joe Biden has warned that the hurricane now in the first category could be the most destructive in Florida's history, “with a significant number of lives lost”.
Ian is currently moving towards North and South Carolina.
As a result of the violent storm, over 2.2 million people continue to have no electricity in Florida.
The floods are so severe that some residents are trapped in their homes.
