EU invites Kosovo, 16 other states to European Political Community meeting

Kosovo and 16 other non-member states of the European Union have been invited to participate in the first meeting of the new European Political Community, which will be held on 6 October in Prague, a bloc official said. In addition to Kosovo, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, [...]
In addition to Kosovo, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, Serbia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iceland, Litenstein, Moldova, Norway and Switzerland have also been invited, the official said, adding that the invitation has been extended to the United Kingdom, Turkey and Ukraine.
The invitations to the 27 EU member states for the Prague summit will be submitted later, the EU official added.
This meeting will be held before an informal summit of leaders of the European bloc. Participants are expected to discuss security, migration and climate change, but also for the current economic situation, however, so far it is not envisioned that at the end of the meeting there be a joint declaration, the bloc's official said.
The idea for the establishment of the European Political Community has been presented by France's President Emmanuel Macron in May. As he has said, this forum aims to facilitate exchanges between EU states and those outside the bloc, including those aspiring to EU membership.
Macron has said he hopes this forum will help improve co-operation with EU partners in Europe by referring to Ukraine, which earlier this year received candidate status.
However, France, but also German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who has backed the European Political Community, have said this forum should not be an alternative to EU enlargement. / REL
