He said implementation of this agreement would be delayed, as they cannot complete the reconstruction of the prison at the rates they had hoped for, because, he said, it should be in line with Danish standards.
In addition, Minister Tesfaye also cited obstacles to the political system in Kosovo and the failure to break the agreement by MPs.
The Agreement has not yet been legally ratified in Kosovo. We've known that for a while, and I've also announced the Council of reconciliation. We are fully dependent on the co-operation we have with the Government of Kosovo. It's not enough that we've decided this. That is how it is to enter into agreement with other countries”, he said.
Among other things, the Danish minister said he has been in touch with his Kosovo counterpart, Albulen Haxhiu, until he added “I have the impression that everything must go well”.
Until now, the goal has been to open countries early in 2023. It is now expected to be at the end of this year”, Tesfaye concluded.
Kosovo and Denmark on December 20th 2021 have signed a letter of satisfaction, under which 300 prison cells have been signed Kosovo to be provided in state exploitation Denmark.
After that in April of this year, Minister Haxhiu and her counterpart from Denmark, Nick Haekkerkerup, signed the Treaty, which paves the way for co-operation between the two countries in advancing corrective services, supporting green energy projects and promoting rule of law.
For this lending, Kosovo is expected to benefit 210m euros over the next decade.
A day earlier, media in Denmark reported that the Danish state has suspended the agreement signed with Kosovo for renting 300 cells to the Gjilan prison due to lack of funding.
