In a study published in the <x0British Medical Journal”, scientists found that men who ate high levels of refined ultrafood had a 29% higher risk of developing colon cancer than men who ate very little of these foods.
The study has analysed the answers of more than 200,000 participants (159907 women and 46 341 men) in three major studies that valued the diet of volunteers and were conducted for more than 25 years. Researchers have concluded that the strongest link between colon cancer and ultra processed food in males comes from sausage or canning fish.
On the other hand, the team of scientists has also noted that a higher consumption of sugar sweet drinks, such as nonalcoholic drinks, fruit-based beverages and milk-based sweetened drinks, is linked to a growing risk of male cancer.
However, the case of women has been different. Out of 159 907 women who have been followed, the research team has documented 192 cases of colon cancer. Of the men, 1294 cases have been recorded among 46 341 participants in the study.
In this regard, one of the coauthors of the study, Fang Zhang, has noted that consumption of foods such as yogurt can counter the harmful “effect of the other types of ultra-processed foods in the case of women.
