Albania is losing Kosovo markets, exports scored 40% to 8 months

The increase in goods prices in the international markets is “and looks at” what is really happening with the amounts of traded goods that seem to be undergoing significant reductions due to the crisis. INSTAT official data shows that, for the January-August 2022 period, the amount of Albanian exports to Kosovo marked a decline [...]
The official INSTAT data shows that, for the January-August 2022 period, the amount of Albanian exports to Kosovo marked a 40% decline, as well as imports from Kosovo were at 12% decline.
Over the month, 448m tonnes of goods were exported to Kosovo, from 748m tonnes in the same period last year, or 40 per cent less.
For the same period, 123m tonnes of goods were imported from Kosovo in January-August 2022, from 141 thousand tonnes in the same period in 2021 or 12% less.
More detailed data from INSTAT shows that the decline was created by the lowest volumes of exports of materials, construction, iron and oil. Oil exports to Kosovo in the 8th month 2021 were 58% lower than in January-August 2021, while exports of construction materials (mainly iron) marked decline by 22%. Sources from companies exporting to Kosovo suggest that markets there are already being supplied directly with oil and iron from imports being downloaded directly from the Durres Port. Previously, some of the supplies were carried out by Kurum, but because of costs the iron production factory has been closed after iron from import comes cheaper.
The data shows that the commercial surplus in volume was halved this year. Trade balance with Kosovo shows that this year Albania exported 325 thousand tonnes of goods to Kosovo, with more than it imported. A year ago the trade balance in volume was plus 607 thousand tons.
The quantity trade has also suffered a decrease with other regional partners, but the decline has not been as dramatic as Kosovo.
The valuables point to a very different situation. Although 40 percent lower in quantity, the value of goods exported to Kosovo in eight months was 6 % higher. In eight-month, the total value of Albanian exports to Kosovo amounted to 25 billion dollars from 23.5 billion dollars in the same period in 2021.
Kosovo's imports to Albania have estimated 89.8m euros in the January-August period, increasing by nearly 40 per cent compared to the same period last year, while their amount was 12. % lower than a year ago. /Monitor
