In the town of Mitrovica, the price of wood per cubic metre of 30 euros as it was a year ago has risen to 60 euros.
Citizens who consider wood heating to be the only way to cope with low temperatures during winter. They say the price is high and affordable for them, but they still have to make a solution and take it.
Zejnullah Manjolli, a citizen of Mitrovica who had come out to market to buy wood, announced to Kosovo Press that the price of 60 euros per cubic metre is extremely high and affordable.
He returned without a job saying that for now there is no possibility of buying wood, but he indicated that he must soon make a solution because of young children at home, so, as he said, he cried without buying them.
I went to the market because I'm interested in wood, but it seemed very expensive 60 euros and I'm finding it expensive for what is currently in Kosovo. I don't have a chance, very expensive, with these salaries and pensions... I have to make a choice right now, but I don't have to cry without buying it because of the kids... The doors are so expensive right now, since all the articles are up, but the wood is too much to me, it's like, "Ghox1>," Manjoll said.
Sabit Hasani, another Mitrovica who has not yet resolved the heating issue for this winter, said the price of wood is too high.
According to him, those who are in a position to solve the problem, but others who live with social assistance and pensions, including disabled ones, find it very difficult, so he appealed to institutions to help this category of citizens.
No dances, we haven't bought wood yet... three feet are going 60 euros, one works again does, but for the social, expensive... Last year was the price of 30 euros, now 60 became... I had begged Bedri Hamza to help those who are with social aid, disability pensions, to help you to the municipality”, Hasani stressed.
Even Bilall Shyti admits that the price of wood is high and affordable to citizens.
He says he has secured the wood since June at the price of 45 euros, while calling on institutions to help the population overcome this difficult situation.
I've already taken the wood, in June from 45 euros, while many have now cost 55 to 60 euros and you can't afford it. It's hard for the people because the conditions are very difficult. The salaries and pensions are very small, while people have a lot of trouble surviving by the end of the month. The government has to take measures to help this people overcome the crisis... 60 euros a meter of wood is too much, you know, 10 meters 600 euros, today it's very hard to secure. As soon as you can assure him, the pension is 200 euros, it's a problem”, Kosovas Shyti said.
In the meantime, one of those who had gone shopping for wood did not mind the price of 60 euros.
Avdyl Bajrami, unemployed but having four children working outside Kosovo, said the wood is not expensive.
He added that the prices of all the items have been raised and life has become expensive in general, so wood vendors should also win because they have families.
No, I guess the wood isn't expensive. Someone's holding 60 euros by 70 Euros, but this coshu told me they let me go... I don't work anything, I depend on kids who are in the diaspora.. Four kids... Life became expensive, and these too must benefit something because these too have families”, Bajrami said.
On the other hand, the wood vendors did not want to be declared before the camera, but behind it said that “anyone sells the wood is cheap, while those who buy it are worth”. They argued that it takes a lot of work until they prepare them for sale, citing their cuts, truck loading, then transportation, etc.
