Ukraine has exported over 1 million tonnes of agricultural products across the sea over the past month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
“Nisma for grain export is operating for almost a month and during this period, from our three maritime ports has exported 1 million tonnes”, Zelensky said during a late-hour address on August 26th.
grain exports across the Black Sea were interrupted shortly after Russia began its unprotested invasion of Ukraine on February 24th.
In July, Russia and Ukraine reached an agreement to resume exports. The deal was brokered by the United Nations.
Zelensky said that since this agreement has entered into force, 44 ships have left Ukrainian ports and have sent products to 15 foreign states.
The goal is to achieve the amount of 3 million tonnes per month” exports, Zelensky said.
“These exports are very important for Africa, Asia and Europe”, he added.
Earlier this month, the head of the world's food program The UN warned that even after the resumption of exports from Ukraine “we expect the global food crisis to last for at least a year”.
Ukraine and Russia are among the world's largest exporters of agricultural products. The ban on exports of Ukrainian cereals increased global prices in the world and increased fears that some states will face hunger. /rel
