Alexey Zhuravlyov, a Russian MP and an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, recently threatened to kill a German journalist who covered the war between Russia and Ukraine. Since Putin began the invasion of Ukraine on February 24th, the Kremlin has hit freedom of press and expression in Russia, while prosecuting those who speak against the war. Meanwhile, the television supported by the Kremlin has become a major hub of pro-war propaganda, often containing threats against the West.

During an interview with Russia's 60-minute news programme, Zhuravlyov, the leader of the pro-Putin Rodina party, threatened Björn Stritzel, a German news agency B reporter ILD, which is covering the war from Ukraine. A video of his comments was posted in Titter on Saturday by journalist Julia Davis, who monitors Russian propaganda.
