Two pilots are believed to have fallen asleep and lost their landing during a flight from Sudan to Ethiopia.
The incident occurred on board a Boeing 737-800 on the route from Khartoum to Addis Ababa, reportedly when pilots fell asleep and the plane continued to cross the landing track at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, his planned destination.
Air traffic control was evidently unable to contact the crew despite some efforts. However, an alarm flared when the plane crossed the runway and continued along the route.
The plane then began to descend, sitting safely about 25 minutes later, CNN reports, broadcasting Klankosova.tv.
“Flight later landed safely after communication was restored. The crew in question has been removed from the operation pending further investigation. Proper corrective actions will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation. Security has always been and will continue to be our first priority”, said a statement issued by the Ethiopian Airlines.
