Peter Stano confirms EU invitation for meeting between Kurti and Vucinqi

European Union for Foreign Policy and Security High Representative Josep Borrell has invited Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti to a meeting in Brussels, and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq.

It has confirmed this for the Dukaagjini portal, European Union for Foreign Affairs spokesman(BE), Peter Stano.

Kurti and Vuciq on one August have received an invitation from the EU for continuing dialogue, where all open issues between the two states will be discussed.

EU spokesman Stano has said that after Kosovo's accession of Borrell and the US's request to postpone reciprocity measures provided all barricades are removed in the north, the EU invited both sides to meet in Brussels to discuss further European integration into the EU.

Stano has stressed, among other things, that the focus of dialogue should turn to the comprehensive normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, which is essential to their respective European integration routes towards the EU.

While Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, on August 2nd for a Serbian media medium, has said he will respond positively to Brussels' invitation on August 18th to maintain the new round of dialogue with Kosovo, but said he doesn't know “what else we can talk about.”

Everything has been consumed and you no longer know what you can do. I'll go, but I don't expect anything. Anyone who thinks that with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti will likely preserve peace is very wrong”, Vuciq told Serbia's Radio Television.

But so far there is no confirmation from Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti of his participation in this meeting, called by Borrell.

Kosovo Government head Albin Kurti on August, at a news conference, has said there is no official invitation for a meeting in Brussels.

But he had stressed that Kosovo is ready for dialogue with Serbia.

Serbia's president has had to meet in Brussels on 19 July, but he has sought to postpone that meeting by the end of August. Maybe he was busy preparing for what happened yesterday because we had to meet on July 19,”, Kurt said.

I have expressed my readiness that when EU High Representative Josep Borrell calls us, I will go to Brussels. We don't have such an invitation right now. At the moment we will, of course, make it public and express our attitude. We are for well prepared, principled dialogue, balanced towards a legally binding agreement that makes the normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, focused on mutual recognition”, Kurti has added.

Otherwise, within the EU-brokered dialogue, Kurti and Vuciq have met twice.

Their last meeting was held in July 2021.
