Full announcement:
Tomorrow, September 1st, the new school year begins for all primary, lower and medium-sized education institutions in the Republic of Kosovo.
Honored citizens, in the past two years, we have had obstacles to begin school year in time, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected the learning disorder and caused considerable learning losses. Even this school year will be challenging, due to the global economic and energy crisis, which is beyond our control.
Despite the fact that all proper preparations have been made, the successful start of the school year is questioned because of the BSPK-declared strike, which has also been attached to SBASK. While our legislation recognizes the right of all workers to strike, it also knows the right to work for those who are not part of the strike.
In view of the situation on the ground, we invite parents and students to communicate directly with class teachers, class administrators, and school management to see if the school process will be organized, and at what time.
The SBASK chairman and none other than the central and local authorities assigned to legislation have the right to announce the closure of schools for any reason, nor to prevent those who want to work. Such pressures are unacceptable and punishable. In the meantime, speculation that coming to school can undermine the child's safety has no basis.
The Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, as well as the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, have been open to dialogue with trade unions and have addressed legitimate requirements, always within the legal framework and material opportunities. We are convinced that the solution can be found for any problem, but such processes should not harm children and young people who need quality education.
All students, teachers, and parents want a good school year and less disorders.
