Jury President Denis Mukwege has indicated why this award has been shared for Merkel.
The “all members of the jury were touched by its bold decision in 2015 to welcome more than 1.2 million refugees, especially from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Eritrea. This is the legacy she left”, Mukwege said.
The jury has also given an honorary assessment to “Juliene Lusenge” of her commitment to women who were victims of sexual violence.
“Félix Hopewt Peace Prize - Boigny - U n NESTO” was established in 1989, this annual award honours an individual, an institution or a private or public organ that has contributed significantly to promotion, research or preservation of peace, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and the U Constitution NESTO.
They have received this prize by world - renowned figures, including Nelson Mandela, Frederick W. DeClerick and Jimmy Carter, who was valued for his work in the field of education.
