Ou Yang Li-hsing, who was deputy chairman of the Chung-Shan National Institute of Science and Technology, owned by Taiwan, died of a heart attack.
The official was found dead in a hotel room south of Taiwan, but there were no signs of “intervention”, according to the CNA, broadcast the Express newspaper.
His family also had history of heart disease, and he himself had a stable, said the report.
News of the official's death comes amid increased tensions with China following US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.
Ou Yang had taken up the post earlier this year to oversee missile production projects on the island's territory, intended to double the annual production of missiles in about 500 this year as tensions mount.
