Kosovo with over 25 per cent more tourists than last year

This year Kosovo has marked increased numbers of visitors from around the world. Compared to the same period last year so far, there has been an increase of over 25 per cent of visitors, says Kosovo Tourism Union Chairman Bucky Hoti. It appeals state infrastructure development institutions [...]

Hot for Kosova Prees says this year, cultural events like “Manifesta”, Sunny Hill” and “Dokufest” have influenced the number of tourists in the country.

“This is positive, I can say that we have an increase of over 25 per cent year-on-year in the same period, so we rejoice that the number of tourists is increasing and there are requirements from different agencies, from different individuals, from different groups to visit Kosovo, given the activities that are taking place in Kosovo and these have increased the frequency and number of tourists”, he says.

Despite that, the chairman of the Kosovo Tourism Union says it can be done even more so that through different attractions Kosovo will attract even more visitors.

“We are working every day to build these capacities, the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo should work much harder on infrastructure parts, and businesses so that communities work on the development of products and services, which are of enormous value. So we, together, both institutions and other activists have to work together in order to offer the most appropriate conditions for greater tourism development and the greatest tourist attraction to visit Kosovo”, he adds.

As for the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing cases, Hoti says there was no problem with coming from abroad.

Hoti points out that under the Kosovo Tourism Union they are working on several projects through which interested ones can be informed of cultural activities taking place in the country, but also tourist areas.

He says that through international co-operation, they aim to educate young people in the field of tourism.

“Under the Kosovo Tourism Union we are working extremely hard, you know that within this year we have implemented five promotional projects for Kosovo tourism. Now recently, we've made up the update of the Kosova '%s' app, which is an app being downloaded into two Android and IOS platforms, it's free of charge for citizens, but it's also for visitors but we soon believe it will go through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through all the embassies and diplomatic offices where Kosovo has in the world in order to be one of the address of Kosovo tourism<1>, he relates.

The Kosovo Statistics Agency (ASK) a few days ago has published Hotel Statistics in Kosovo for May 2022, under which 32 thousand and 444 people have visited hotels during this period.

According to the AKS, 37.12 per cent were local and 62.88 per cent were foreigners.
