KMDLNj: Government Threat to Turn Down Salaries, Human Rights Sins

The Council for Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms in a response to the media stresses that Kosovo is facing strikes and threats to strikes because unionists have called for salary increases and is being rejected by the government. KMDLNj emphasises that the government's threat of pay cuts is a violation of human rights.

Of all the segments that have started the strike or will strike soon, education is the most sensitive and threatening. KMDLNj has been declared many times that the strike is an extreme or the last tool of a unionist action. In the absence of will, primarily the government, through union dialogue to find solutions according to union demand or, as a transitional solution, to be a long-term agreement, the two opposing parties have been bared by offering no solution”, it said in response.

The KMDLNI further emphasises that these unions have been ignored by the government, are being threatened literally and are now threatened to be left without pay if they strike.

Of course, if this threat from the government is experienced would be a serious violation of the Labour Law and flagrant violation of human rights for the fact that organisation and unionist action are regulated and allowed by law. Only dictatorial and fascist states have done so to strikers”, it is further said.

KMDLNj calls for the Government of Kosovo “lowered the threat weapons and found a solution along with trade unions”.

The Council also invites trade unions to try to avoid general strike until all possibilities are exhausted.

“KMDLNY supports the strike, as human law and right, only when the last means for realisation of their rights remains”, it says in the end.
