Six children and some fighters of the Islamic Jihadist Movement (PIJ) including the heads Khaled Mansour and Tayseer Jabari are among the 28 Palestinians killed by Israel.
Nearly 400 Palestinian missiles have been launched in Israel since Friday, an Israeli official said.
Israel says it started operations due to <x0 threat” from the PIJ.
The latest violence is the most serious explosion between Israel and Gaza since an 11-day conflict in May 2021 that left more than 200 Palestinians and dozens of Israelites dead.
The Israeli Army warns that this latest operation, code-named Breaking Dawn, could last for a week, the BBC writes.
On the second day of violence, Israel killed PIJ senior leader Khaled Mansour on Saturday in an air strike on a house in Rafah, south of Gaza.
The commander had previously survived five assassination attempts by the Israeli army, which accused him of planning militant operations outside Gaza.
His death follows a deadly Israeli air strike against Taiseer Jabari, another high commander of PIJ, Friday.
Also, some 19 members of the PIJ have been arrested in raids throughout the occupied West Coast, according to Israel.
The Gaza Health Ministry blamed the Israeli <x0-region” for Palestinian deaths and 203 injured persons.
