Other German weapons for Ukraine worth 500m euros

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has announced large new arms supplies to Ukraine. A German government spokesman confirmed to the news agency, ahead during the Chancellor's trip to Canada, that Germany will supply Ukraine with three additional air defence systems and a dozen tanks. Even the Reuters news agency reports, citing government sources, that Chancellor Scholz announced within the framework of his visit to Canada, new arms shipments to Ukraine. The total is military equipment worth more than 500m euros.

In this way the German government will significantly increase its weapons supplies to Ukraine. Apart from the three antiaircraft defence systems, which are scheduled to be sent and tanks, 20 rocket launchers will be sent. This is added to the precise ammunition, and combat equipment with fears dried up. Hence, the material should be made available this year and next year. According to information, the Bundestag budget commission must give its approval.

At an online summit on the future of the Crimean Peninsula, annexed since 2014, Scholzi assured Ukraine of Germany's continued support. The international community will never accept the illegal and imperial annexation of Ukrainian territory from Russia, the Chancellor, who participated in the conference since Canada, stressed. Kiev's government had invited more than 50 countries from Europe, Asia, America and Africa to attend the online summit. / DW
