France as one of the most important EU member states has asked Kosovo and Serbia for spirit discussions on compromise and implementation of the agreements that have already been reached. So they have said from France's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, questioned about the situation created following the Government of the Republic of Kosovo's decision on reciprocity for license plates and entry documents.
The international factor has been making efforts to find a deal between the Republic of Kosovo and Serbia for the work of license plates and entry documents.
In search of a solution to these two issues, two emisars -- Gabriel Escobar and Miroslav Lajcak -- are staying in Pristina today for meetings with the Serbian side.
Spirit discussions of compromise and implementation of agreements already reached are also requiring official Paris.
In an exclusive response to Gazeta Express from France's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they have said Kosovo and Serbia should refrain from unilateral actions that could lead to fuelling tensions.
“We urge the two sides to continue their discussions in the coming days in the spirit of compromise, implement the agreements that have already been reached and refrain from taking any unilateral measures that could spur tensions”, France's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Gazette Express have said.
From Paris, they say they fully support EU mediation efforts, efforts that “should facilitate progress towards a final, comprehensive and legally binding agreement between Kosovo and Serbia”.
The government of the Republic of Kosovo had decided to establish reciprocity for license plates and entry documents since 1 August 2022. Such a decision had been rejected by Serbs in the north of the country, who had blocked roads in that part and strained the situation.
Seeing such a development, US Ambassador to Pristina Jeffrey Havenier had urgently gone to a meeting with heads of state and had demanded that such a decision be postponed for a month.
Tensioning the situation had prompted Josep Borelli and Miroslav Lajcak to urgently invite a summit of Kurti-Vuchic, which was scheduled to take place on August 18th.
Over five hours of Kurti-Vucciq negotiations in Brussels had resulted without success. This has led Washington and Brussels to send the two emissaries to Pristina and Belgrade in search of a solution before September 1st, since they refused to repeat what happened a month earlier.
Until American KFOR forces have already been deployed in the northern part. In an interview for Kosovo public television, KFOR commander has said they will not allow the establishment of barricades and that if the need should arise, they will intervene, since KFOR's mission is security and ensuring freedom of movement.
