Law enforcement officials told American media that they are considering whether the one media identified as Ricky Schiffer, 42, had any connections with extreme right-wing groups.
The head of the FBI said violence and threats against the agency “should be deeply troubling for all Americans”.
Police have not officially identified the suspect killed in Ohio on Thursday and have not commented on his motive during a news conference, the BBC writes, broadcasting the Express newspaper.
Officials, who wanted to be anonymous, told American media that the suspect may have been present at Congress building in Washington on last year's riot day by Trump supporters.
The Ohio incident comes after US officials warn of added threats after the FBI executed a search warrant Monday on former President Donald Trump's property in Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
