Kosovo Assembly MPs three years ago, with 89 votes per, one against and two abstentions, have voted for the distribution of the sixth legislature, leading the country to early parliamentary elections.
The MP's proposal for the distribution of the Parliament followed Ramush Haradinaj's resignation from the prime minister's post on July 19th, after he received an invitation from the Special Court in The Hague to interview the quality of the war crimes suspect.
MP The PDK, Memli Krasniqi, who at the time spoke on behalf of 98 deputies who have requested the session, said the motion for the distribution of the Parliament legislature is in accordance with all parliamentary groups.
“Based on Article 82, paragraph 1, provisions 2, the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo proposes for review in this session the motion to distribute the sixth legislature of the Kosovo Assembly. This motion is in line with the positions expressed by all parliamentary groups at the chairmanship meeting, with heads of parliamentary groups initiated by Parliament Speaker Kadri Veselin”, Krasniqi said.
Opposition party deputy Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Avdullah Hoti, had said this legislature had been the confrontational arena of opposition positions to preserve the legality and Constitution of Kosovo, rather than the debate on advancing policies in the interest of citizens.
“As opposition, we had a coalition of 24 parties, but represented only 1/3 of the electorate, a coalition without legitimacy, not professional, with ad-hoc decision making based on political interests and interest groups. As a result, only 30 percent of the legislative agenda has been realised, and from the opposition's will to support certain” laws, Hoti stressed.
In contrast, since Kosovo's declaration of independence, no government has managed to complete its constitutional mandate for four years. /kp/
