The Barry Callebaut company said on Thursday that its factory in Wiese which she says is the world's largest chocolate factory has closed all production lines as a precaution, while the contamination has been investigated.
Barry Callebaut produces chocolate for multiple brands sold worldwide.
Salmonella was discovered on Monday and all chocolate products produced at the factory have been suspended pending investigations, the company said.
The company said it has informed Belgian food security authorities and is contacting customers who may have contaminated products in their possession.
It's unclear if any customers reported being sick with chocolate.
Early this year, at least 200 reported salmonella cases were believed to be related to Easter chocolate eggs made in another Belgian factory operated by Italian company Ferrero. /Euronews
