Visas, corruption, dialogue, Decani Monastery Kosovo Rapporteur Von Crammon gives details of the Kosovo report

The rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Violet von Cromon, has released her report for 2021. It has spoken on various issues -- from solidification with Ukraine, rule of law, application for implementation of the Constitutional Decision for the Decani Monastery, visa liberalisation and dialogue with Serbia. Initially, she said the report [...]

Initially, she said the report comes at a particular moment, at a time when Russia's attack on Ukraine's territory is taking place. It praises Kosovo's pro-Ukrainian stance.

This year's “Kosovo report comes at a special moment when we see again the horrors of war in Europe. Its government demonstrated full solidarity with Ukraine, for which I want to thank”, she said.

She also spoke of reforms the state is conducting to meet conditions for EU integration.

“The report also highlights Kosovo's long path of reform and EU integration. The report covers a wide range of issues. Law rule, the fight against organised crime and corruption, public administration and anti-discrimination”, it writes.

It requires that the Constitutional decision for the Decani Monastery be implemented in order to have equal enforcement of rule of law.

“In terms of rule of law, the report urges authorities to co-operate with international partners and fully respect the Venice Commission's opinion. Law rule means equality for all. Therefore, I call on the Kosovo government to implement the JPC's sentence regarding the Decani Monastery and demonstrate that there is no selective approach when it comes to applying the rule of law”, she added.

That far indicated that without reaching agreement with Serbia, EU accession will not happen.

“A key element of the EU integration path is the EU-led Dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. EU special envoy Miroslav Lajcak has our full support and there is a unique transatlantic unity. However, without legally binding normalisation agreement, accession will not take place”, Von Croamon declares.

German citizen, who is a member of the Green Party, also mentions the energy transition in Kosovo.

Environmental protection must become a priority for Kosovo! One of the main steps is the transition of energy. Time to implement the Energy Strategy, which will pave the way for defuelling Kosovo's energy mix and will open the door for renewable resources. #Kosovo citizens know this”

Von Croamon also shows the need for visa liberalisation to happen as soon as possible for Kosovo and a check on meeting all conditions.

The European Parliament and I personally have repeatedly reiterated the need to give immediate visa liberalisation, which has long been delayed despite Kosovo meeting all criteria. All Kosovo citizens deserve to live in a country that enjoys full international respect and clear European integration prospects!”, it concluded.

This year's #Kosovo ? reports come in a special moment when we see again horrors of war in Europe.

It's gone. demonstrated full solidity with #Ukraine ?, for which I want to thank them.
