Northern Macedonia's Foundation Public Prosecutor suggests that investigations into the case the Gjakova family has filed against the private hospital in Skopje “Zhan Mitrev” are under way. In April of this year, the Gjakova family has filed criminal complaints against the hospital in question of cardiology and its medical staff for, as it has been said, her son Edon Gjakova's inadequate treatment.
Radio Free Europe reported on this case on July 21st, which is included in an investigation into the investigative network, IRL, for allegedly unacquable treatment of patients.
According to family members, Edon died at the “hospital,Zhan Mitrev” in December of last year, as a result of blood poisoning with a deadly bacterium. In the records released by the hospital after his death, however, it does not say he was infected with a bacteria.
Initially paved because of some stomach concerns, Eddon has been treated at “Zhan Mitrev” for about two months, according to the family.
After tests, doctors have said that they suspect that the patient had <x0-seconds of colon”. As a result of the deterioration of the situation, Edon has been subject to the treatment of blood, after which he has died.
Family members have expressed doubts that he has been infected with deadly bacteria that, as they have said, were circulated in the hospital at the time.
From the hospital “-Zhan Mitrev” said earlier on REL does not comment on individual cases, but are open to co-operation with authorities.
In the REL question of what the prosecution has taken to whiteen the Gjakova family case, from this institution say that “are verifying claims, which have been presented in criminal denouncing”.
“As far as the criminal threat you are interested in is concerned, it is handed over to the Foundation Public Prosecutor in Skopje in the month of April and is assigned to the competent public prosecutor. He is acting and has taken over the verification of claims in the report”, the prosecution says, but without providing further details.
Lawyer: No One Is Invited to Witness
The lawyer committed by the Gjakova family, Asmir Alispappic, says neither he nor any member of the family in question has been invited to testify in the prosecution.
“Talk about a large volume of the hospital documents that we've filed, about the indicators that a criminal offense was committed during the late Edon Gjakova's non-executive treatment at the private hospital, Zhan Mitrev.... I believe these claims will be confirmed during the prosecution's legal procedure, and then by court”, Alispic says of Radio Free Europe.
Qebir Avziu, a legalist at the Jurydical Faculty at Tetovo University, who has worked on the North Macedonia Home Affairs Dikaster, says that, under the law, the period of investigation into the prosecution is an addiction.
If the offense is serious, for which several years are put together, then investigations can last a year and more”, he says.
“ [In the Gjakova case], the reason why neither the lawyer nor the family members [in the prosecutor] have been summoned, I believe it concerns the continuation of investigative actions to ensure necessary evidence, that the procedure is effective”, says Avziu for Radio Free Europe.
IRL Research, Due to Investigations
Research of the IRL network from Northern Macedonia raises doubts about the inadequate treatment of dozens of patients in “Zhan Mitrev”, which have ended fatally. According to this research, patients who have suffered have allegedly been subjected to blood filtration as part of an experiment.
This treatment, according to IRL, has infected dozens of patients “with deadly bacteria”, while the hospital has applied it without permission from the state Agency for Medicines and Medical Equipment.
The investigation, published on July 18th, has then been prompted by the North Macedonia Public Prosecution to launch investigations against the hospital “Zhan Mitrev”.
The hospital has dismissed the accusations, saying they are “fabricated” to create a false “”.
The Gjakova family is among at least eight other families who have filed criminal charges against the hospital “Zhan Mitrev”, for similar reasons.
The IRL has published another research last weekend, which claims that “spital yhan Mitrev) has struck patients twice as fortunate.
Sashka Cvetkoska, IRL network journalist, tells Radio Free Europe that after publishing the research, hundreds of citizens are submitted to IRL with complaints to hospital “Zhan Mitrev”, but also to other private and state hospitals in northern Macedonia.
