Officials from the municipality announce procurement and tender procedures for the new fleet will begin in September of this year.
“With the mobileization plan is envisioned that 161 buses should operate in the capital. Currently, urban traffic has 51 buses and 30 -31 are expected to come, while another 80 belong to the private sector for which new contracts and agreements will be treated the same as urban traffic and will be under the umbrella of the Pristina municipality. The new fleet is actually expected to begin, the tender procedure in September and the part of how long the procedures will last, they are regulated by law. However, by September we'll only start with procurement procedures, tenders for the new fleet”, says Iliric Musliu, director of the Directorate for Public Services.
Some electric buses are expected to be part of the new fleet, which, according to Musliu, will also positively affect environmental qualities and protection.
Their 6 to 8 will be electric. They're set to be used in the city's one-way central ring. Yes, that has a positive effect. The new fleet, however, positively and especially affects the section of electrical buses, so one of the goals that the electric fleet will be used inside the central ring is that of protecting the”, Musliu says.
But environmentalist Africa Berisha is skeptical whether electric buses will influence improving air quality.
If we look at it from the number, it doesn't seem to be any significant impact since this number is symbolic and so the impact on air quality measure I think will be symbolic. But what is important to mention at this moment is the initiative that Pristina Community has undertaken for its fleet to have electric bus”, Berisha says.
Berisha added that all Kosovo institutions should think about increasing electric vehicles, since Kosovo aims at European integrations. According to him, there is also a special regulation of the European Union, where from 2025 it is pre-resistent that all EU member states are bound by new registered vehicles, 15% of them should be electrical and zero emissions. / RTK
