They say among the reasons health professionals are seeing their future abroad are the uncertainty of economic prosperity and low wages in Kosovo.
This has led many doctors to navigate Western countries for a better job, reports Online Economics.
Former Health Minister Ferid Agani in an interview for Online Economy said that the departure of doctors from Kosovo is among the biggest problems facing health.
It cites a series of factors that have influenced this phenomenon, calling it “tragedi” in terms of providing health services.
“The removal of doctors from Kosovo and going to other countries to work and leaving the health system in the country presents one of the biggest problems in which health is facing, and unfortunately, domestic institutions are humiliating this problem and are not giving proper importance to it. The reason it's happening is that young doctors have lost their professional perspective”.
“The uncertainty of economic well-being, the extremely low wages all have led health professionals to see their future abroad that presents tragedy in terms of providing health services to the population because the shortages that will be observed in the country after several years are extraordinary”, said Agani.
Even former Prime Minister Armend Zemaj sees very worrying the departure of doctors from Kosovo, as there is no support and support either from the Government and the Health Ministry.
We're not seeing any moves. At least one move from this government to brain conservation or to the maintenance of health professionals in Kosovo. And that's disturbing the lack of salary law, financial support and those who deserve support. And this is the situation that is particularly developing concern is about the departure of doctors in succession or leaving public institutions towards private health institutions”, Zemaj said.
He in an interview for Online Economy has added that the Government, namely, the Health Ministry is in deep sleep and passive conditions.
According to Zemaj, the situation in hospitals is quite disturbing because there is a lack of essential drug lists.
On the other hand, he said that waiting lists have already passed every limit leading to health towards collapse.
There is sufficient capacity to inherit from the good work done during the pandemic. But now it takes responsibility, it takes ability to deal with problems that citizens have, especially in providing health services. But we are not seeing this from the government at least from the Ministry of Health”.
“... the situation is what presents very real daily complaints, daily shortages either from the list of essential drugs, which is the long list of health offerings. The waiting lists have already gone to extremes in waiting and the problems that appear and that you have seen both in the oncology clinic and other clinics that have already passed to health collapse level”.
