At the joint conference with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, Meta voiced confidence that his successor will continue his support for Kosovo.
Meta said he does not accept any thanks given to Kosovo's leaders, as assistance to the state said it has a moral and constitutional obligation.
He expressed regret by saying he has done no more for Kosovo, though he promised that since he officially left office, more will be committed to Kosovo.
“I do not accept any thanks for having done constitutional duty, but also moral duty as any Albanian citizen does, and the only regret I have is that I could have done much more in supporting Kosovo if I had fewer internal problems in my country during these five years. But I promise you that from Monday morning, 25th, I will do many times more for Kosovo”, he said, EO reports.
What I want to thank you today is for the excellent co-operation we've had with you and all of Kosovo's institutions that will continue in the future. I am convinced that even Albania's president-elect will continue this very positive tradition. It is important to stress here the International Court of Justice's decision because it cemented Kosovo's independence and the freedom path in which Kosovo” entered, Meta said further.
