After leaving the country, Sri Lanka president resigns

Rajapapax left the country and first fled to Maldives along with his wife to travel to Singapore.

The news was confirmed and by the Foreign Ministry in Singapore, which on a verbal note writes that Rajapaksa has not requested asylum but has entered the country on a private visit.

Protests for over a month put an end to the Rasjapsa presidential family dynasty, which led Sri Lanka for decades.

The citizens of Sri Lanka have accused and blamed the administration of former President Radzapaksa for the worst economic crisis in decades. For months they faced constant blackouts, as well as shortages of basic goods, food, fuel, and medicine. / A2 CNN
