The New York prosecution has pressed charges against former lawmakers from Indiana Stephen Buyer, the director of a technology company that has illegally benefited, thanks to the sale and purchase of shares in the stock market, based on classified information that are not designed for public consumption. Also on two separate occasions, charges have been filed against a person who was preparing to be an FBI agent, as well as a banker in the field of investments. These issues are among the executions raised against nine people in New York City, involved in four separate schemes of illegal use of internal information, which were released today.

This is considered one of the most significant shares on the part of law enforcement forces to this phenomenon in a decade. Prosecutor Damian Williams and other federal officials pledged to step up efforts for similar prosecutions in the future. They said the defendants have benefited in illegal ways millions of dollars.

At a press conference, Prosecutor Williams said the cases are the continuation of his promise to be “decided on rooting out criminal activities in financial markets (American)”.

In the indictment filed against Stephen Buyer, he reportedly absorbed secrets he had learned as consultant to earn about $350,000 illegally. The Republican lawmaker has served on the commission that oversees the telecommunications industry from 1993 to 2011.

Buyer, who was arrested Monday in Indiana, is accused of using classified information to buy shares during a process of union between T-Mobile and Sprent, among other things. The documents reportedly used his work as consultant and lobbyist for illegal profits.

His lawyer did not immediately respond to an email message for comments on the matter.

In a civil case, established by the Manhattan Federal Paper Commission against Mr. Buyer, it was said that he bought valuable letters from the company Sprent in March 2018, just a day after taking part in a golf game with an executive of the T-Mobile company, who spoke to former lawmakers about the state of the company and non-public plans to buy Sprent.

Grewaal said the arrests were not only aimed at sending a signal to financial industry professionals to protect secrets and implement the law, but also aimed at sending an equally strong message to the public” that regulatory entities and law enforcement structures have focused on maintaining clean markets.

In a second indictment, three directors of a technology company in Silicon Valley are accused of illegally using internal information related to a corporate union case, information one of them learned from his employer.

In a third case, a person who was preparing to become an FBI agent allegedly stole inside information from his former girlfriend, who was then working at a large legal firm in Washington. According to court documents, he and a friend obtained over $1.4 million illegally after learning that Merck & Company. Co would buy the Pandion Therapeutics.

In the fourth indictment, a New York-based investment banker was said to have shared classified information with another person on possible company reunions, agreeing to share illegal profits in the value of around $280,000. / VOA
