Euro weakens on Albanian market, Bank of Albania reports 1 euro is currently exchanged for 94.89 leks

The European currency is facing another wave of weakening in the Albanian market. Under the impact of high currency flows and increased euro bid, the exchange rate has dropped to record levels, making the money even stronger in the face of European currency.
According to the official course published by the Bank of Albania, one euro is exchanged for 94.89, while in the currency market its value has dropped further by being traded at around 94.5. Economic experts link this devaluation to the flux of foreign tourists, remittances, as well as developments in the real estate market.
To ease fluctuations in the currency market and strengthen the country's currency reserve, the Bank of Albania has continued to intervene through the purchase of the euro. According to the calendar published, during 2026 the institution expects to withdraw between 330m and 450m euros from the market.
These interventions have contributed to the growth of the currency reserve, which has currently exceeded the rate of 7.5 billion euros. Most of this reserve is kept in euros, followed by US dollar and British pounds.
But stabilised the exchange rate in Albania, economic experts suggest putting deeuroisation policy in operation, especially during the summer season. According to expert projections, the euro could continue to decline in the coming weeks, affecting even lower than 94 leks at the peak of the summer season.
