The most recent meeting between them took place during Mrs. Biden's unprecedented visit to western Ukraine in May, during which they visited a school and joined a group of children who were preparing gifts on the mother's day. President Joe Biden donated the first Ukrainian lady to a bouquet of flowers, with the colors of Ukraine's flag.
The White House said Mrs. Zelenska is visiting Washington “to underline the human cost of Russian aggression in Ukraine. In meetings with US officials, it is expected to be discussed about the continued support of the United States for the Ukrainian government and its people, in defence of democracy, as well as in dealing with the major consequences of the war, consequences that will be felt for years to come”.
Ms. Zelenska met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday.
State Department spokesman Ned Price said Mrs. Zelenska and Mr. Blinken talked about the largest and growing <x0-cysts of the Russian large-scale attack”. He noted that Mr. Blinken stressed the US's commitment to supporting Ukraine.
“Secretary Blinken praised the work of First Lady Zelenska to help Ukrainians affected by the war”, Mr. Price said. “He reiterated that the United States will continue to offer aid to Ukraine in order to respond to important economic and humanitarian challenges, including support of the first lady's mental health initiative, for war-affected citizens”.
Lady Zelenska is expected to go to the Capitol on Wednesday, where she will deliver a speech before lawmakers.
