EU reacts to announcement of Russia Today television opening in Serbia

Serbia is expected to respect the European Union's decisions, which include limiting the transmission of Russian state television, Russia Today (RT), said in the 15 July response.
“RT is part of the instruments of Russian propaganda and deinformation, with which the Kremlin monitors illegal aggression against Ukraine and the killings of the Ukrainian people. In this context, we expect Serbia to refrain from intensifying relations with Russia as a country that massively violates the United Nations Charter and international law”, said Perer Stano, the EU spokesman for security and foreign policy issues.
As part of a broader package of sanctions against Moscow due to the invasion of Ukraine in March of this year, Brussels suspended the transmission of Russian media Sputnik and RT/Russian Today.
Since March 2012, Serbia has been a candidate for EU membership, and in line with circumstances, it has been forced to follow Brussels' decisions to meet the conditions for membership.
Some media in Serbia reported 14 July that RT plans to open a television station in Serbia.
