American Ambassador: In the next 140 years, US and Serbia have jobs in bilateral relations

US Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill said 5 July in Belgrade that the United States and Serbia should find common interests and begin frank talks on their differences. In the next 140 years of bilateral relations, Serbia and the US will have much work to do. [...]
In the next 140 years of bilateral relations, Serbia and the US will have much work to do. The US understands the importance of this part of the world and that's why relations with Belgrade are extremely important for us”, the US ambassador said during his visit to the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade at the opening of the two-day conference “The Serbian-American Department through the centuries”.
The conference, which holds works today and tomorrow, is organised by the United States Centre for Studies at the Faculty of Political Sciences, on the occasion of marking 140th anniversary by establishing diplomatic relations between Serbia and the US.
“does not belong to the US to tell the EU who should be a member of it and who should join it when, but it is up to the US to say that we should continue with the project of a full, free and at peace”, Hill said that relations with Europe, including Serbia, are very important for the US.
He said that Americans and Serbs share common features.
None of us, whether Serbian or American, likes to be told what to do. But I think we should listen to each other better, understand each other. In essence, we need to understand a little bit more what logic is in our relations”, he said.
He also mentioned war in Ukraine, saying that the Russian invasion of the country poses a danger to all.
Earlier, during a visit to Nis to southern Serbia on 27 June, he said “Serbia must double its efforts and return to Western institutions and harmonise with the European Union”. / REL
