Vicky Umodu said she noticed a set of two couches and a chair given free in Craigslist and thought they would be perfect for her new home. He called the person who mailed them and found that the furniture belonged to a recently deceased relative and that the family was trying to get rid of everything on the property.
“I just moved in and there's nothing in my house. I was very excited, so we got it and we got it,” said Umodu told KABC-TV.
She added that she soon discovered that there was something unusual in the lower pillow of the couch, so she opened the chain and looked inside.
I could feel there was a stack of letters”, she told The Washington Post. When I opened it, I was shocked. I started screaming”.
The pillow contained numerous envelopes that proved to have more than $36,000 in cash.
Umodu then spoke to the man who donated the furniture, who told him that the family had discovered other envelopes of money hidden around the house.
They gave Umudus a $2, 200 reward for the return of cash envelopes, which she said plans to spend to buy a new refrigerator.
